Council of Europe Committee of Ministers repeats call for release of Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ

At its meeting on September 15-16, 2026, the committee, citing rulings by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), called on Türkiye to ensure the "immediate release" of former HDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ. It also requested clarification on whether the new law covers applicants in the Demirtaş case file.
