Privacy policy

gazete.tv is a reading site. There is no account, no login and no reader profile today, and reading will never need one. This page says exactly what data reaches us, why, and how you get rid of it, and it describes in advance what sign-in and a paid membership would add on the day they open. It is written to meet both the European GDPR and Turkey's KVKK; the separate KVKK disclosure notice carries the wording Turkish law asks for.

Who is responsible

The data controller is Odun Games Limited Şirketi, which publishes gazete.tv, at Kireçburnu Mah., Sarıyer, İstanbul, Türkiye. Write to [email protected] about anything on this page.

What we collect

Server logs. Our hosting provider records each request: the IP address, the time, the page, the referring page, the browser and operating system string, and the response size. These logs keep the site up and let us spot abuse. They are kept for a short period and then deleted. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure service (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)); under KVKK it is the legitimate interest ground in Art. 5(2)(f).

Audience measurement. We run it without cookies and without cross-site identifiers, and we store counts rather than visits that can be traced back to a person. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing what is read (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f); KVKK Art. 5(2)(f)). If a measurement tool that does need consent is ever added, it loads only after you accept in the consent bar that appears with it.

Newsletter. If you ask for the daily brief by e-mail, we store the e-mail address you typed and the date you asked. Nothing else. The basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a); KVKK Art. 5(1)). Every message has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes the address.

Messages you send us. A correction, a question or an advertising enquiry arrives as an e-mail with whatever you put in it. We keep it as long as it takes to answer, and to show the correction was handled.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for your phone number, your location or your date of birth. We do not build a reader profile, we do not fingerprint your browser, and we do not sell data to anyone — not today and not when accounts open. The site has no comment section. Sign-in with Google or Apple is planned and described below; until it opens there is no login of any kind, and reading will never require one.

Advertising

The site carries advertising. Today every advert is our own image, served from our own domain. There is no ad script, no ad server, no third-party request and no advertising identifier, so seeing an advert on gazete.tv sends nothing about you to anyone.

If the publisher ever sells a slot to an advertising partner, that partner needs your permission before it loads, and the site asks for it: a consent bar appears, the tags stay inert until you press “Accept all”, and choosing “Only necessary” keeps the slots as they are today. A partner that is switched on may set its own cookies or identifiers and process your IP address and the page you are on in order to pick and measure adverts; it acts as its own controller for that. This page and the cookie policy will name the partner before any of it happens, and you can withdraw consent at any time from the cookie page.

Accounts and membership — when they are available

None of this happens today. There is no account, no sign-in and no payment on gazete.tv, and nothing in this section describes data we hold right now. It is written in advance so you can read it before you decide.

Signing in with Google or Apple. When sign-in opens, we will receive from the provider you choose: your name, your e-mail address, and a provider user id — an identifier that lets us recognise you next time without knowing anything else about you. Apple’s private relay address counts as your e-mail address, and we treat it as such. On top of that we store the preferences you set here: your sections, your home page layout, your saved stories and your theme.

We never receive your password. You sign in at Google or at Apple, on their page, and they tell us only that it was you. There is no gazete.tv password to steal, and we could not hand yours over because we never have it.

The legal basis for an account is the performance of the contract between you and us: you asked for the service, and an account is how it is delivered (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b); KVKK Art. 5(2)(c), processing necessary for the performance of a contract). Preferences you choose beyond that rest on the same basis where they are part of the service, and otherwise on your consent.

Buying a membership: we process no payment data at all. A membership is bought only as an in-app purchase in our iOS or Android app, through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. It is not sold on this website and we never ask for a card here. Apple or Google is the seller. They take the money, they hold the card details, they issue the receipt, and for that purchase they are independent controllers of your payment data under their own privacy notices — not our processors, because they are not doing it on our instruction. We never see your card number, your billing address or your payment history, and there is no invoice of ours to keep, because we are not the party you paid.

Membership state is all we receive. From the store we get one fact about the account you signed in with: whether it is currently a member, and until when. No name from the store, no e-mail from the store, no transaction detail. We store that beside the account so the site can drop the adverts and give you the member features. The legal basis is the contract between you and us (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b); KVKK Art. 5(2)(c)).

No advertising for members. A member sees no adverts, so no advertising cookie or identifier is set for a member, whatever the site’s consent settings are at the time.

How long we would keep it. Account data, and the membership state beside it, for as long as the account exists; after deletion it goes within thirty days. We hold no payment or invoice records, so there is nothing here that a tax retention period reaches: what Apple or Google keeps about your purchase is theirs, under their own notices, and asking them to delete it is a request you make to them. Server logs are unchanged by any of this.

Deleting your account. You will be able to delete your account from the account page, or by writing to [email protected], and we do it. Deletion removes your name, your e-mail address, the provider user id, the membership state, your preferences, your home page layout and your saved stories. It cannot remove anything already anonymised beyond recovery. It does not cancel a subscription and it does not refund one: the subscription lives in your App Store or Google Play account, so turn renewal off there first, or you will keep being charged for a membership with no account behind it. Deleting here also does not touch anything at Google or Apple; to disconnect gazete.tv at their end, use their own account settings.

Where it would go. Google and Apple process data outside Turkey and outside the European Economic Area, both for sign-in and for the purchase. Those transfers rest on the same grounds as the rest of this page: the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses, and for KVKK one of the routes in Art. 9 — an adequacy decision, an undertaking or standard contract notified to the Board, or your explicit consent. Each of them is named here before it is switched on.

Asking about any of it. Write to [email protected], the same address as everything else on this page. We answer within thirty days.

We share data only with the suppliers that make the site work: the hosting and content-delivery provider, and the e-mail sending provider for the newsletter. There is no advertising partner today. They may process data outside Turkey and outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens we rely on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses, or on the explicit-consent and undertaking routes that KVKK Art. 9 provides.

How long we keep things

Server logs: a short retention period, then deletion. Newsletter address: until you unsubscribe. Correspondence: as long as needed to answer it and to keep a record of a published correction.

Your rights

You can ask us what data we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, ask us to limit what we do with it, object to processing based on legitimate interest, and withdraw a consent you gave. Under KVKK you can also ask us to notify anyone we passed the data to, and you can complain to the Turkish data protection authority (KVKK) or, in Europe, to your national supervisory authority.

Write to [email protected]. We answer within thirty days, as both laws require. If we cannot identify you from the request we may have to ask for one more detail, and we will ask for as little as possible.

Children

The site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and a substantial change is announced in the brief itself.
