Ömer Çelik is a Turkish politician and journalist, a former Minister of European Union Affairs of Türkiye. He served as Minister of Culture and Tourism between 2013 and 2015, and has been a member of parliament for Adana since 2002. He served as Minister of European Union Affairs in the 65th Government of Türkiye, formed in 2016.

Rumors claim 3 MPs may move to AKP

According to reports based on backstage information from Cumhuriyet, it is being discussed that two MPs from İYİ Party and one from YENİ Party may join the AK Party (AKP) when the legislative year begins on 1 October. The reports noted that 19 MPs have moved to AKP since the 2023 elections.

Cumhuriyet: It is being discussed that three lawmakers could move to AKP in the new legislative year

According to information Cumhuriyet reported as coming from behind-the-scenes sources, the possibility that two İYİ Party lawmakers and one Yeni Parti lawmaker could join AKP is being discussed for the legislative year starting on October 1. According to the newspaper, 19 lawmakers have moved to AKP since the 2023 elections.

Türkiye condemns drone attempt targeting Mecca; Houthis deny the claim

Saudi Arabia announced it destroyed a drone south of Mecca on the evening of September 15. Türkiye's Foreign Ministry condemned what it said was a Houthi attempt to target Mecca, while the Houthis denied the claim, saying they had only targeted oil facilities and military bases.

State media and pro-government press TRT Haber and Hürriyet reported the incident as a Houthi attack attempt targeting Mecca and highlighted Türkiye's condemnation statement along with reactions from AKP and Communications Directorate officials.

Opposition-leaning and foreign press Evrensel and DW Turkish presented the report as a "claim," and also conveyed Houthi officials' statement that "the claim that Mecca was targeted is a stale lie," as well as the Houthis' counter-claims regarding Saudi airstrikes.
