European Court of Human Rights (ECHR)

An international court affiliated with the Council of Europe

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) is an international court established in 1959 under the Council of Europe. It is a judicial body to which individuals, communities and states can apply in cases of violations of fundamental rights guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights and its additional protocols. The Court is located in Strasbourg, France.

Council of Europe Committee of Ministers repeats call for release of Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ

At its meeting on September 15-16, 2026, the committee, citing rulings by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), called on Türkiye to ensure the "immediate release" of former HDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ. Council of Europe asks Türkiye for information on Kavala by October 14

The Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers, at its meeting on September 15-16, repeated its call for the immediate release of Osman Kavala and asked that concrete steps taken or planned be reported by October 14. The file will be taken up again no later than the December 1-3 meeting.
