Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is the 12th and current President of the Republic of Türkiye and chairman of the AK Party. He served as Mayor of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality from 1994-1998, and as Prime Minister of Türkiye from 2003-2014. He was first elected president by popular vote in 2014, and was re-elected in 2018 and 2023.
