Political and economic union of 27 member states

The European Union is a political and economic union of twenty-seven member states, with territory located largely on the European continent. It was established in 1993 with the entry into force of the Maastricht Treaty. It has a population of more than 450 million.

Türkiye's livestock numbers exceed EU countries

According to Eurostat and Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) data, Türkiye's cattle population rose 4.3% in 2025 to 17,709,000, while France, first among EU countries, had 16,237,000. Türkiye's sheep population stands at 46,689,000 and goat population at 11,186,000.

EU says it is following detentions in "My Family Is Safe" operations with concern

In operations spanning 15 provinces, legal proceedings were reportedly launched against 162 suspects, 9 associations and 13 businesses. The EU said it was following the detentions and access blocks "with concern," had "noted" reports that most detainees were released, and reiterated its call for anti-discrimination recommendations to be implemented.

EU unveils proposal to ban social media for under-13s

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, speaking in Strasbourg, proposed a social media ban for under-13s and limited, supervised access up to age 15; the plan must still be debated and voted on by the 27 member states.
