Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was a Turkish field marshal, statesman and writer; he was the commander-in-chief of the Turkish War of Independence, and the founder and first president of the Republic of Türkiye. He undertook sweeping progressive reforms that transformed Türkiye into a secular, industrializing nation. His policies and socio-political theories became known as Kemalism.
