Access blocked to 419 social media accounts; arrests in LGBTI+ investigation

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced it had blocked access to 419 accounts and one link. Sources differ on the number arrested: at least 60, or, according to rights groups, 62 arrested and more than 100 detained.

Access blocks extend to accounts of journalists and women's organizations

On September 16, an access block was applied to 22 more X accounts, including those of journalists İrfan Değirmenci and Şirin Payzın and soL Haber, as well as women's organizations. The blocks, ongoing since September 12, have so far covered 419 accounts.

Independent and opposition-leaning press Diken, Bianet and Evrensel, citing İFÖD, emphasized that the accounts had not yet been made invisible from Türkiye by X, and that it had not been disclosed under which judicial order the blocks were issued.
Foreign press Euronews Turkish wrote that 22 accounts had been made invisible from Türkiye, while DW Turkish, citing İFÖD's announcement, reported that some of the accounts had been made invisible.
