Samarkand is a city that serves as the administrative center of Uzbekistan's Samarkand Province. It lies in the Zarafshan River valley, 275 km southwest of the capital Tashkent. It is the country's second-largest city by population and has historically been an important settlement due to its location on the Silk Road.

Intelligence services of Turkic states discussed security cooperation in Kazakhstan
