Competition Authority

An independent authority responsible for protecting competition

The Competition Authority is a body established under Law No. 4054 on the Protection of Competition, adopted on 7 December 1994, and is responsible for implementing this law. It aims to prevent anti-competitive practices in goods and services markets and to prevent abuse of dominant position. It is affiliated with the Trade Ministry but carries out its duties independently.

40 suspects arrested in fresh fruit and vegetable investigation

In the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's "Price journey from field to market" investigation, 40 distributor company managers who were detained were arrested, while 1 suspect remains at large. Bianet, citing Central Bank (TCMB) studies, reported that many factors including intermediaries, costs and weather conditions play a role in high prices.

Gap between state grain board price and free market price for hazelnuts under debate

In Ordu, the free market price for hazelnuts is 170-180 lira per kilogram, and 190 lira in Giresun; the Soil Products Office's (TMO) Levant-quality purchase price is cited in sources as either 250 or 255 lira. The Trade Ministry and Competition Authority are reported to have launched a field investigation.
