Armed separatist organization

The PKK, formally Partiya Karkerên Kurdistanê, is an armed organization seeking self-rule in the eastern and southeastern regions of Türkiye and surrounding areas. It is recognized as a terrorist organization by various countries and international bodies. Following a call from its founder Abdullah Öcalan, a congress announced on 12 May 2025 that the organization was disbanding and halting armed activities.

Sözcü: Cemil Bayık said they would not lay down arms unless Öcalan is released

According to Sözcü, Cemil Bayık, a senior figure of the PKK (listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the EU and the US), said in a statement on the process, "We will not lay down arms if Apo is not freed," and argued that the law passed in the Grand National Assembly (TBMM) does not meet their demands.

Interior Minister Çiftçi meets Iranian counterpart Momeni in Ankara

Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi met his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni in Ankara to discuss the 'Terror-Free Türkiye' process, PKK's Iranian offshoot PJAK, and the fight against drug trafficking. Çiftçi said 32,848 people were detained this year in 38,915 anti-drug operations.
