According to the report prepared by Esenler Municipality, the annual economic cost of traffic congestion in Istanbul is approximately $10 billion. The time lost due to traffic reaches 288 hours per year.
The report is based on a field survey of 3,000 people and focus group interviews. 55.5 percent of participants cited driver carelessness as the most important traffic problem. Transportation expert Dr. Fatih Gündoğan said the study was prepared under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Mazhar Bağlı.
