Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş announced that he left his CHP membership and said his resignation had nothing to do with the presidential election. Yavaş stated that after the remarks of the party's spokesperson Müslim Sarı, he decided he "could not stay for 1 minute".
Announcing his resignation on his social media account, Yavaş responded to CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı's statement "No one is above the party" by saying he never saw himself above political parties. Speaking to journalist Gürbüz Evren, Yavaş said he had no intention of leaving the party before, and that he decided to resign after Sarı's harsh words.
