Şimşek: Disinflation succeeding but slower than desired

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said inflation would today be at least 7 points lower if not for the war; annual inflation was 31.5% in August. Central Bank (TCMB) Governor Fatih Karahan said recurring energy shocks could complicate the fight against inflation.

Financial Stability Committee holds emergency meeting: "No structural risk"

Short-term external debt stock rose to $177.1 billion in July

According to Central Bank (TCMB) data, short-term external debt stock rose 3.8% month-on-month to $177.1 billion in July, or $248.1 billion on a remaining-maturity basis. Bank-originated debt stock rose 4.3% to $77.8 billion.

Emlak Katılım begins acquisition talks for Katılımevim and Birevim

Türkiye Emlak Katılım Bankası notified the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) that its subsidiary had begun talks to acquire Katılımevim and Birevim Tasarruf Finansman. Opposition press BirGün reported that spot gold rose 1.1% to test $4,310.49, and that gram gold climbed as high as 6,758 lira on Thursday.

Neutral press Sigorta Gündem reported that after the decision, spot gold fell back to around $4,240, then recovered to approach the $4,300 mark, with gram gold testing above 6,750 lira.
